Often times, unless people are trained in the medical field or work in a place where they’re constantly using medical supplies, they forget to stock up on basic medical supplies at home. Sometimes this is just annoying, as in the case when your child scrapes her knee and you can’t find a band-aid. Sometimes, though, it can be downright dangerous. While you can make improvised wound care supplies, it’s better to have actual gauze, tape, and wrap around when you have a wound that is bleeding heavily.
Before you get into a situation like this, it’s best if you stock up on necessary supplies and stay on top of what you have on a regular basis. There are a few different ways to do this, and your way will probably depend on your style of organizing and the level of written organization you prefer to use.
The neatest and more organized people will probably create a paper-based system for tracking medical supplies. Each time you buy something, you’ll write down what you bought and its quantity, and each time you use something, you’ll mark it off your list. This can be a good way to go because it will allow you to see as soon as you begin to get low on an item. This can be a little tedious, though, especially for people who aren’t natural organizers.
Another way to be sure you always have the supplies you need on hand is to eyeball it. You can simply store the supplies in an organized space – a craft organizer with large slots works well – so that you can see when you start to get low on something. When the stack begins to dwindle, you can add more bandages or tape or whatever to your shopping list to pick up supplies so that your box is restocked and ready to go.
